The US Postal Service is the model of efficiency, I shipped a package on the 7th of May, and apparently it likes the Chicago area, because it is on its third visit there….

In roughly the same time it takes Federal Express to move roughly 1 Million iPads from China, the USPS can’t move 1 freaking GPS unit from Virginia Beach Virginia to Olathe Kansas…

    i think it is the elk grove village facility in freaking illinois its like a black hole of horror. And when i called to ask for my package the orlando office told me that it is possible that someone is readig my package address wrong and just keeps putting it in the wrong bin.

    It appears to going in a circle in elk grove. After calling USPS customer service several times i got two different explanations. one person said the sender must have got the address wrong so it keeps looping back to elk grove because they can’t locate the address. the other person said there appears to be no problem as it has not even arrived at a POST OFFICE, just intermediate processing facilities. either way this proves once again how incredibly unreliable USPS is. also, they claim to not even know the destination zip code and say the only person who can correct the address is the sender..

    It´s amazing how a few years back you could have sent money in a regular mail and now the priority mail is getting lost in the post office!!!
    The customer service is as useless as they could ever be, their job description is to ask for all the addresses that are already on the envelope, the tracking number just so she can provide you with yet another number and read the whereabouts of the letter you probably already read on internet yourself…
    The customer service representative told me she had sent the emails to all the places and when I asked her if she could call instead she replied she can´t because those places are machine operated and no actual people work there… With a bit of a surprise I offered to do her job for her and give her the numbers to all those Sort Facility places where actual humans work since I have talked to them, she calmly replied that she can´t because those are her rules… So apparently I can and people who supposed to do something about it can´t… I finally asked to talk to the manager, got transfered to a answering machine, yet another place actual people don´t work, I guess… Called back to talk to the manager who finally explained what is going on… next time if you want any information… call straight to the manager and save yourself the aggro….

    Apparently, it can take up to a few days or more to find it…

    Not to bright are we Mr. Mailman…
    Pretty sure that they are not flying the packages between Elk Grove IL and Chicago IL, and it really doesn’t matter who is carrying it, it matters who’s routing it.
    The other point is the silmple fact is that except in extremely rare instances, the USPS has the worst customer service anywhere.

    I’ve been waiting for a priority mail package that was supposed to arrive 2-3 business days. I’ve called customer service and all they can tell me is that it’s stuck 2 hours outside of where I live for reasons apparently over their heads. Who do I blame? FedEx? no. When I order from FedEx, my package arrives on time. The Postal Service has failed to deliver my priority mail now for about 2 weeks.

    I live in Chicago. It went through the sort facility IN Chicago just to be sent to Elk grove where it hasn’t moved in over a week. I could have walked my ass over to the Chicago facility to get my package if I knew it would take so damn long. Now it’s stuck somewhere in Elk Grove and I can’t get a hold of anyone smart enough to do a damn thing about it.

    I can tell you from personal experience the Elk Grove Village and Des Plaines Post Offices are the absolute worst in delivery. They should be two of the facilities to be closed. Employees don’t even speak english very well. Ridiculous.

    OMG, I googled the Elk Grove Village sort facility because a package I sent from Lisle, IL ( 20 minutes away from delivery Lockbox) scanned three times at the Chicago hub- # 2 and 3 AFTER I opened an investigation….now it is in Elk Grove Village- two weeks later…..I am not feeling so well now……the package is only ORIGINAL documents pertaining to an immigration case….that HAD to go to the Lockbox……ggggrrrrrr….No telling what would have happened if I had chosen First Class instead of Priority.

    I recently read a story about someone in Davis CA who sent a book essentially a couple of miles, and by the time all was said and done including the book going all the way to NYC it eventually made it…

    Interesting how the junk mail makes it right on time… 🙂

    I’m 70 yr former USPS carrier, If I did or got away with half the shit these folks going to the job (no work) get away with back in the day, I would have been shit canned short of a week. obama’s union contributers have a free ticket to F Off an 8 hr shift without being productive.     Yep, it’s terrible…
    I probably ship 50 packages fedex/ups to 1 USPS, and I don’t believe I have had one package shipped UPS/RedEX lost, I think I had one delayed a day, because of a massive snow storm…

    And to think both UPS and FedEX run at a profit, while the is in the hole to the tune of more then $5 Billion

    I have been working at FedEx smartpost for almost 2 years now, and I worked at UPS for 2 and a half years before that, and DHL for a year before that. DHL did not last long here in Kansas City as within its first year it had so many missorts and a shit staff they had no choice but to shut it down they were losing so much money. And UPS so far has been the best shipping company I have worked for in terms of service quality. While UPS is union, they still are very strict about packages getting missorted. And people do get fired over missorting packages. However, FedEx smartpost seems to not care at all. Where I work, most of our staff is all hired from FOB from africa or asia and dont speak a lick of english, so they have no clue whats going on. I see mislabled packages daily by the hundreds, and I do my best to catch them before they continue and get them fixed. However, I cant catch em all. But I bet thats what happened. It seems to happen daily at FedEx so I imagine it does at the post office too. Bad lables but no one cares to fix the problem and it just circles the system. We have had packages just circle within our hub for days with no label cuz people are too lazy or dont know what they are doing. If I was the CEO of one of these companies, alot of people would be out of the job over stuff like this. When something is missorted 3 or 4 times, its not a mistake, its the company failing to hire an educated workforce.

    Been waiting a week for a package, and it’s been processed though the Elk Grove Village sorting facility 6 times now. Been missent twice. My local post office spoke with someone at the missent location, and they had the package in their hand and stated the shipper has the right address, but the post office is coding it wrong and hence being missent. They corrected the error, but the package still went back to Elk Grove Vllage and is still being processed. Hoping for a miracle that the package will be here tomorrow!

    You are absolutely right. I snet important papers to Atlanta, GA. Somehow, Elk Grove sorting facility sent it to San Francisco, CA! Nobody knows why and how, there is nothing I cand do ablut it. Long live USPS!

    So darn frustrating and disgusgted. I am in West Vs. Sender said it would be here on the 23rd. However tracking information which is always on a 48 hour delay had it in Penn. and then to Chicago, Ill., then back to Penn and now it is in State of Washington. This has been going on since 19 July.

    I sent two envelopes at the same time through Priority Mail and one arrived but the other did not. I had a tracking number on both and the one that has not been delivered says that it is still in the sort facility in Nashua, NH. My envelope is from NY to NH and i called multiple times at their 1-800 number and they keep giving me different answers. I sent the envelope on 11/13 and now its 12/1!!! Does anyone have the number for the sort facility in Nashua, NH?

    I just need to say that I HATE USPS… The service is horrible and SLOW. I’m having the same issue now with a package. I sent it from Chicago to France but it was mistakenly sent to Texas because they zip code from the town in France is the same as a Zip Code from a town in Texas.

    Almost a month later waiting on my package to get back. This is the second time it made it near my house at the ELK GROVE VILLAGE facility. 3 days ago it was there and I got excited… Tracked it again the next day it was sent back to Texas.

    How can anyone notice the France address on the package??? Made a claim and called the customer service number. Escalated the case (which means NOTHING at all).

    I asked multiple times can I just call this people myself? I google the Elk Grove Village number and they told me all package are out. Call 1(847) 595-7389 from there a machine call 1(800) 275-8777 (Thats the main number). The main number just asks you if you want to escalate the case because they cant do anything but read the tracking information (same info I see myself). WTF?????

    I am having such a hard time understanding this too. Its rediculous. I ordered something from Portland Maine and have been waiting on it for over two weeks. I emailed the shipper to see what the deal is and they gave me the tracking number. I looked it up and this is what it said:

    Its been at this sorting facility for over ten days. I called the post office in Elk Grove and they said they couldnt do anything and gave me the number to the sorting facility but told me they don’t usually answer. What are they doing then? Obviously not sorting mail, since they apparently cant do it correctly. This is the number they gave me to call: 1 847 595 7394

    no answer after like ten calls.
    I tried calling 1 800 275 8777 but they just keep saying “we are expiriencing technical difficulties, please call back later”

    What is wrong with these people!? I am so upset about this, how hard is it to read numbers on a package? Ive also had so much mail delivered to my house that was supposed to be for the house down the street, or our upstairs neighbor in our box. Is it THAT HARD?

    I worked for the USPS for 25 years and yes, most of the stuff you say about it is correct. But, I found about 30 percent of the packages getting lost were by having a wrong zip code on it. I manually sorted so many miss zipped packages by knowing most zip code are low number from the east coast to high numbers on the west coast just by looking at the city and the state to find most zip codes numbers were mostly flip flopped. I’m dyslexic, so that comes easy for me. Within a second or two I knew exactly what the problem was and corrected it. Most employees never had the time or patience to do what I did.

    Hi everybody , I have the same problem like many ppl said about the worst works of USPS international priority . My package shipped from VANDALIA , OH 45377 from April 16 and still waiting after 2 months without any news .

    Here is the tracking infos that USPS updated on their website and you can see its stuck at Chicago IL from April 19 till now .

    I will never go with USPS anymore and i wish i find this package and send it with Fedex or UPS .

    I saw the person that retired from USPS was here , please let me know what should i do now ? its really horrible to wait for nothing .

    USPS does a bad service. My package left the Elk Grove,IL sort facility on August 5 2013 at 1:51am and still did not arrive to Buffalo Grove,IL. Today is August 6, 4:37pm. Two days to deliver package from Elk Grove to Buffalo Grove? Give me a brake!

    I have the same problem. If it happens to you, call the 1-800 number and ask to speak with a supervisor and/or let them know you want open a case.

    Also mention this website and explain this is happenning to thers also. The supervisor explained to me that if they see a lot of cases to elk grove village, they will send someone in-person to inspect.

    I’m only posting because I may have some more insight into the USPS than the average customer. Years ago, my Dad worked as a supervisor in that package sorting facility at Chicago’s man PO. For years I heard his horror stories about workers sleeping in the locker rooms, and his hope that someday most of them would be replaced by machines.

    Even after his death, I’ve kept up with how USPS has been automating services, and as an IT systems engineer I’ve been scrutinizing what they’ve tried to do for weakness in their customer interfaces. To date, all but one has has related to human interaction by an employee or a customer.

    My complaints involve the “last mile” handling by carriers. Expensive packages routinely left on the front stairs in the rain, even WHILE I’M home, with no effort made to ring the doorbell or knock at the door – either of which would cause my dog to bark twice to alert me. Temporary carriers walking across newly planted lawns (“my supervisor said to do it”).

    I think that it’s inevitable that the quality of human-provided mail handling services will either degrade as the USPS looks for ways to outsource shipping and use less expensive labor, or continue at the same level. If you are forced to use USPS services because of cost, my advice is that your best bet is to learn how to minimize human involvement in the sorting and routing processes.

    If you have a problem, IF YOU WANT TO GET IT FIXED instead of just complaining online, go to your local post office and FILL OUT A COMPLAINT FORM. These are read and investigated by postal inspectors, who must investigate and document every complaint. When I have done this, I’ve seen an improvement in future service quality.

    I get personal packages delivered to my home weekly from all over the world. I’ve had MANY packages routed through the Elk Grove Illinois facility and never experienced a problem getting anything delivered to me on or before the expected delivery date.

    I’m not trying to make any excuses for the USPS, but could it be that all of my deliveries were sent from businesses who ship a lot, and because of that, know how to prepare an unambiguous mailing label?

    Most of the packages were from Ebay merchants using parcel select – the cheapest, slowest, way to send what used to be called parcel post. A smaller number were Priority Mail.

    For the few items that I’ve sent by Priority Mail, I made a special effort to make the label fit the standards listed on USPS.com, and used my computer printer to be sure that the label would be machine readable, and weather-resistant.

    My registered letter from Latvia, ‘supposedly’
    left the Nashua NH post office on the 8th,
    today is the 17th, I’m in Alabama,
    still nothing..
    I’m starting to get the feeling that
    I’m sh*t out of luck
    ,,and my hard earned money.

    Packages sent….tracking numbers on them….but they never reach destination….And no one in the USPS gives a dam……No accountability!!!!

    When I ship a package by USPS I tape the label really well that way it can’t get faded or destroyed during shipping

    Anyway my package which I ordered on November 31st has been at the Destination Facility,KANSAS CITY, KS 66106. Since December 3rd and I paid for two day shipping
