iPity The Whiners

The other day I downloaded a cool little app called iPity, all this thing does is says Mr. T sayings at random or you can select a specific saying should the need arise. I don’t know about you, but I think everyone can use Mr. T as a backup.
Then the other day I was wandering through the app store, and notice that iPity’s rating was down from 5 stars to 2, and I’m thinking WTF could make an app drop like that. Well all the whining was over the fact the the people that wrote the app have done 2 things, they made it free pissing off all the people who paid a dollar, and they added advertising without saying anything. Come on people freaking get over it, the guys that wrote the thing are entitled to some compensation, and yes it was sneaky to throw the ads in without saying anything, but Mr. T still has your back, and that is important. So is going from 5 stars to 2 really necessary, when it is essentially the same app…
Quit whining and get some nuts!!!
Can’t do the ad screen correctly because I’m on a plane, so there’s your solution, use ipity in airplane mode

Wall of Hype…

I was talking to several people in the capitol region today, and as you can guess the topic was the water main break in MD. After listining to the varied reports, that I was hearing of millions of gallons a minute that were pouring from the pipe, as well as the friend of a friend that has special inside connections (aka I made this up so it appears I know more then you people). I was was talking to a friend of mine when we were discussing how much water that was, well since he us a much bigger need then I am, he actually did the math, and for the amount to be anywhere near a million gallons a minute the water would have to be moving at 60 to 80 miles an hour (no I didn’t check his math) but it sounded right an being as the actual number 150,000 gallons per minute which would be around 10 miles per hour which also sounds about right…

So while were talking I was looking at the headlines, of “water main breaks” and “motorists trapped in vehicles” one really stood out “wall of water traps motorists” that one brought to you by NBC Washington. I looked at the video, and when I think of a wall I think of something taller then me, well I guess if you were right at the pipe and the water was coming out , I guess you could call that a wall, but not really.

Ok yes it was a dangerous situation, and people were injured and traumatized…

The thing is the idiots running these stations are so busy hyping and sensationalizing everything, so that when something truly bad is happening people will be so desensitized they’ll not do what is needed.

Lions and Tigers and Holograms Oh My…

Wow…
CNN has taken the media crap level to a new low
Their whiz bang hologram, is just stupid, but I am sure that the typical CNN viewer is getting all excited and call the neighbors asking if they saw the magic on the moving picture box. Anyone impressed by this, probably wonders how they move the yellow first down line on football broadcasts.
Then there is the pain of watching talking heads trying to navigate a touch screen aka “Magic Wall” with way to much information on it. It was to funny watching this guy going up on his tip toes while the screen is not responding to his input, the only thing that would have made it funnier is for the thing to blue screen right there on national TV.

Come on CNN, you have all those technology people behind the scenes who’s job it is to make the magic, instead of the pain of watching the talking heads stumble through the menus. Had I known there was the potential comedy effect, I would have broken out some beer and enjoyed.

It is interesting to note the there is a substantial number of Cisco Telepresence commercials.

Annoying Announcers

I’m beginning to wish that the networks would bring back the football games without announcers. My largest pet peeve is that when it is first and 10 anywhere between the 10 and 15 yard line that every announcer feels compelled to inform us that they can get a first down without getting a touchdown, and the worst offender I have seen recently is bryant gumble. I swear it seemed that every other sentence out of his mouth the other night, was the possibility of the offense’s ability to make a first down prior to making a touchdown… I don’t know for a fact, but I am pretty sure that no NFL team has a play or practices to get that first down prior to the touchdown, why, because it doesn’t matter. I believe I heard once that every play is “designed” to put 6 points on the scoreboard, so shut-up about useless stats.

The other thing that annoys me is the hypocrisy of the networks, the announcers and to a point the NFL, as far as end zone celebrations. If end zone celebrations are that bad for the game, ban them, and if anyone celebrates in the end zone, eject them from the game and fine them equivalent to their weekly pay, otherwise quit complaning about them. Every outrageous end zone celebration for some reason  ends up on every highlight reel.  Television pretty much eliminated fans from running out on the field, by cutting away to commercial or whatever. Now I personally could care less what a player does after a touch down, and I am pretty sure the networks feel the same way, because any press bad or good equals ratings, and ratings equal revenue. I do have one stipulation, no celebrations when your team is below .500, or if you team is so far behind that there is no way you’ll ever win
