Yucky Starbucks…

I go to starbucks probably a lot… Enough that I get at least one of those survey receipts a week, once I got 4 or 5 in a week… The thing I’ve noticed is that I never get one of those surveys at a YUCKY Starbucks, but I’ve also noticed that I end up getting duplicate receipts at the yucky stores…

I thought that they closed all the stores for the night a couple weeks ago to re-train all their employees on how to make a proper cup of coffee, apparently the staff of the Falls Church Starbucks I visited the other day didn’t get the memo on the training, and I received the worst drink I have ever had at a Starbucks.
So I left the following at the Starbucks Customer Service Site

This store has to be the WORST starbucks on the planet, and I will NEVER return to this store again.
The person at the register was to busy chatting to what appeared to be an employee that had just stopped by, one person was acting busy polishing stainless steel, and avoiding eye contact to help.  The “Barista” was clueless, I’ve had better drinks out of machines at WAWA….
I walked in the store at 3:14 there was 1 person ahead of me in line, and I walked out of the store at 3:22, seven minutes to get 3 drinks that all tasted like crap. I would have returned then, but I was headed home and wanted to beat the traffic, and from the employees attitude, I don’t think it would have helped….

I wonder what their response will be…
I know 8 Minutes out of my life, what’s the big deal… Probably would be upset over the time, it’s the 8 minutes for Yucky Drinks that gets me…

High Speed, Low Drag

The solutions, or lack thereof that Verizon tried to provide, did not work out as planned. Things did get better, into the 1.2mbps, but that is less then half of the advertised speed.

So I go with the deal from Cox, the cable got hooked up on Monday as planned, and the Modem showed up on Tuesday. I was in D.C. on Tuesday, so I just did the initial setup when I got home, I know I was tired because I couldn’t figure out a latency issue when opening a web page, but once it opened, it was fast… When I got home today I took a quick look, and fixed the DNS issue that was causing the latency, and were hauling butt…

Verizon is so fired… At least until they get FIOS in my neighborhood….

The latest results from speedtest.net, and I know I am not getting T3 speed, but it looks much better then the results with verizon….

And

Well I guess if I had that speed down, I’d be really unhappy with 1.8mbps as my upload speed…

I think this is a bit closer to what I am actually getting…

As well as a little closer to home

I think I’ll be happy for a while now…

LowKey Part II

After my previous post, I decided to look around, to see what others had to say about the LowKey, partly because I felt I was being to negative….

$16 for ground shipping is still outrageous, no way to make a positive about that…
One thing I noticed, was that all the people that wrote about it, apparently actually never saw one in real life, and essentially cut and pasted the press release from Macessity. The comments in a lot of places echoed my dislike of the placement of the USB hub, which made me think, does the USB hub have to be on the front, and the answer is no. I have enough ports now that I don’t need swap things out all the time.
A quick reversal, and things look a lot nicer/cleaner, and all the cables are in the rats nest in the back of my Mac where they belong…

LowKey Stand…

Well this may sound a bit on the negative side, but I really do like the LowKey Stand from Macessity. The Design and concept is great…

Okay so lets hit the negatives first, it is either to low or to narrow (way to low if you don’t have a new low profile keyboard) to easily get the keyboard out if you shove it under while the mac is still on and you don’t want to hit any extraneous key while pulling it back out. The USB hub placement is one of those catch-22 situations, great to have the hub right there, but sucky to have the hub right there, and that problem could be solved if I wasn’t lazy and put my cables away.
The other 2 issues have nothing to do with the actual design. The finish on the edges could be cleaner, I tried several ways, but I couldn’t get it to show up good on a close up picture, it looks like it is something that probably be fixed with a quick pass with some sandpaper. It just looks sloppy, the pictures below show it, but not that clear.
The biggest problem I have is that I think it is outrageous to charge $16 for shipping UPS ground, and then have it take over 2 weeks to arrive. I ordered it the 19th of February, it was supposed to ship on the  22nd, didn’t ship till the 2nd of March and got here on the 7th.
So now what do I like about it, it is low, low enough that you don’t have that constant sense of impending doom that your Mac is going to fall off. It is sturdy, I think Macessity says it will hold 35 Lbs feels like that is a low estimate, there is now wobble or shaking here. The USB hub is a great thing, and with all the USB junk I have, it is a very welcome addition, I only wish I didn’t have the USB cables to deal with…
The bottom line is would I buy another, and the answer is yes, actually I am ordering 2 more, but I am ordering them from Other World Computing, because they are $5 cheeper, and the shipping for 2nd day is only $8
